Mobile Home Destroyed in Fire

Montauk Highway was shut down from West Tiana Road to Jones Road due to a fire at the Hampton Bays Community Mobile Home Park.

Update 11:18 p.m.:

A mobile home at the Hampton Bays Community Mobile Home Park off West Montauk Highway was completely destroyed in a fire Sunday night. There was a middle-aged man in the home when the fire started but he got out uninjured, Hampton Bays Fire Chief John Tedesco said.

The fire was "fully involved" when firefighters arrived and "knocked down" within five minutes, Tedesco said. It took 40 minutes to fully extinguish the fire, he said.

The chief said it is unknown at this time what started the fire. The home is located at the corner of Dogwood and Maple lanes.

Montauk Highway was closed between West Tiana Road and Terrance Drive, but the road has since reopened.

The fire is out.

Hampton Bays Fire Chief John Tedesco said that when firefighters arrived on the scene, a mobile home in the Hampton Bays Community Mobile Home Park was fully engulfed in flames. It took five minutes to knock it down and another 40 minutes to fully extinguish it.

A middle-age man was inside the home when the fire started, but he got out uninjured, Tedesco said.

The has been called to a fire inside the Hampton Bays Community Mobile Home Park.  Montauk Highway is closed off from West Tiana to Jones Road.

Early reports indicated the fire was on Shore Road and Oak Lane in Hampton Bays. A dispatcher, who answered the phone at the Southampton Town Police station said there was early confusion over the address.

Reports indicate a fire broke out in a mobile home. There is said to be heavy smoke in the area.
