East Quogue Civic: Don't Miss Cell Tower Meeting

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m at the East Quogue Fire District office.

The 460-strong East Quogue Civic Association is calling on all East Quogue residents to make a showing at a meeting in which a controversial cell tower proposal will be discussed.

According to a post on the civic's Facebook page, the meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the East Quogue Fire District office, 465 Montauk Highway.

"We need as many East Quogue citizens as possible to attend and find out for yourself what the fire district plans and needs are," stated the civic. "This is an important meeting to learn the facts and how they might affect your taxes, the aesthetic view in downtown East Quogue and to allow you to make your own informed decision."

The meeting is expected to address the fire department's needs for radio communication and possible solutions — one of which is a cell tower proposal, which has been on the table.

The cell tower plan has met resistance from the community and has been on hold since March 2012 when the Southampton Planning Board asked T-Mobile to tweak an application for a 100-foot cell tower proposed to be built behind the East Quogue Fire House on Montauk Highway before submitting a final application.

The planning board said that, as described in the application, the tower did not meet "fall-zone" standards.

Since, East Quogue residents, who have been in opposition to the tower, voicing their opinion vocally at planning meetings and through an online petition, called No T-Mobile Tower in East Quogue, have sat ideal, waiting to see what T-mobile would do.

The East Quogue Fire Department also has sat quiet, only stating that a solution is needed because there is currently a gap in communication and that a tower is necessary to close that gap.
