UPDATE: Dune Road Flooded; Police Say It Will Not Reopen Anytime Soon

Southampton Police say they have been having a problem with sightseers by Dune Road.

Dune Road from all points East and West of Ponquogue Bridge in Hampton Bays is flooded, according to Southampton Police.

As of 10:30 am. police have blocked off the roadway and the Ponquogue Bridge and are asking residents to stay away. Police have also stated that they do not plan to open the roadway or the bridge anytime soon.

At 3 p.m., the Quogue Mayor and a fire chief said they would head to Dune Road to access the damage.

Police say they have already been having a problem with sightseers to Dune Road.

LIPA is also reporting that the majority of homes on Dune Road are without power. As of 3 p.m. LIPA reported that 3,832 were without power in the Hampton Bays area of Dune Road and 252 are without power on the Westhampton Beach and Westhampton Dunes portion of Dune Road.

Police say the town is still under a state of emergency and that residents are urged to stay off the roadways.
