Crimes Nearby: Man Barricades Himself on Main Street in Riverhead

The following information was supplied by police departments on the East End. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

EAST HAMPTON

An East Hampton man, who was cycling through Northwest Woods on Sept. 13, died after he was found on the side of the road.
Detective Lt. Chris Anderson said Andrew Walsh, 45, was found still clipped to the bike pedals and leaning against a tree on Old Northwest Road. A passerby called police at 6:22 p.m.
The transported Walsh to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Anderson said.
Police do no suspect any foul play. Anderson said he believed a medical event occurred, though they are still awaiting a final report from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's office.

Hit-and-Run

Susan M. Ronan, 48, of Franklin Square, N.Y., was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor, the day after she reportedly backed up into a man loading groceries into his trunk behind in Montauk on Sept. 13. The 45-year-old man, who was taken by ambulance to Southampton Hospital with a wrist injury, said he turned around as the female driver drover off in a white Ford Mustang and noted the license plate number. A witness confirmed the plate number with police. Police found Ronan's car the following day at the. After being booked at the, she was released on $100 bail.

DWI

Juan C. Penaranda, 29, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor driving while intoxicated charge in Springs on Sunday. Police said they saw his 2003 Mitsubishi swerving on Copeces Lane at about 4:20 a.m. He appeared drunk when he was pulled over and placed under arrest. Police said he refused to take an Intoxilyzer test. Catherine A. Cahill released him on $500 bail.

Erick J. Ebanks, 21, of East Hampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor aggravated DWI charge on Friday after allegedly driving onto the grass. Police said they saw Ebanks' car going south on Three Mile Harbor Road, near Flaggy Hole Road, when it failed to keep right at about 12:40 a.m. Ebanks reportedly admitted to drinking one beer before bringing his friends home. After failing field sobriety tests, he was brought to headquarters, where his blood alcohol content was .18, acccording to police. His arraignment information was not immediately available.

Discharging Firearm

William Graap, 48, of North Sea was arrested Sept. 14 at 7:59 p.m. at his home on Kennedy Drive in North Sea and charged with discharging a firearm, a misdemeanor. Southampton Town Police responded to a call reporting a gun shot in the area, according to the arrest report. Graap admitted he fired a round from his rifle at a stump, police said. A neighbor spotted Graap walking away from a nature trail behind his house carrying the gun, according to police documentation.

Inciting a Riot

Another suspect in a Sept. 3 brawl at in Southampton Village has been arrested. The on the day of the incident, which Southampton Village police said involved 20 people. Police used pepper spray to subdue the crowd after taking a verbal approach for 20 minutes, Chief Thomas Cummings. Andrew Porrata, 21, of Southampton was arrested Wednesday at 10:22 a.m. for his involvement, police said, and charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree, riot in the second degree, inciting to riot, all misdemeanors, and disorderly conduct, a violation.

RIVERHEAD

Burn Victim

A 25-year-old man from Flanders suffered severe burns after allegedly having hot water poured on him on Sept. 17, but refused to share any information about his attacker with police, according to a police report.
Southampton Town Police responded to a call from East Street in Flanders on Saturday about a young man suffering burns. When officers arrived, the man yelled obscenities, did not cooperate with police, and refused to share any information, stating that he was not a “snitch” and would not give or sign a statement, police said.
The Flanders-Northampton Volunteer Ambulance took the man, whose name was not disclosed, to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead. From there, he was taken to the Stony Brook University Center Medical Center Burn Unit for further treatment, according to police.
Eventually, police said they were able to induce the man to call his suspected attacker on his cell phone. The man admitted pouring water on the Flanders man, who, he said, spit on him, according to reports.
The case is active and will be referred to the town police’s detectives' office, according to police documents.
Southampton Town Police Sergeant Michael Zarro said that given the severity of the victim’s injuries, detectives will most likely push him to provide more details and possibly press charges against the attacker. The incident was listed as second-degree assault, a felony.
“But it depends on the investigation,” Sgt. Zarro said.

Man Barricades Himself

A Riverhead man who had barricaded himself in his home at 3 Segal Avenue on Tuesday morning turned himself into police without incident shortly after 1:30 p.m, according to a statement from Riverhead Police.
Zdsislaw Skobodzinski, 35, was arrested and charged with second-degree obstructing governmental administration after police said the man barricaded himself inside his home, refused to come out, and threatened officers.
Police said they responded to a 911 call from the home at around 10:10 a.m. reporting a heated domestic dispute between Skobodzinski and his live-in girlfriend. When police arrived, Skobodzinski allegedly threatened to shoot officers and retreated into his house. His girlfriend and her 6-year-old son were removed from the home by responding officers, according to the statement.
Riverhead Police shut down a portion of East Main Street between Elton Street and Route 58 while negotiators, including Police Chief David Hegermiller, came to the scene to attempt to get the man to come out peacefully. At around 1:30 p.m., three hours into the standoff, police said Skobodzinski surrendered to police and was taken into custody. An unloaded double-barrel shotgun was found inside the house, according to the statement.
Suffolk County public information confirmed that they had been called to respond though they declined to comment further, forwarding requests to Riverhead Police. Chief Hegermiller could not be reached for comment at this time.

Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument

Caleb Christiansen-Erden, 22, of Quogue was arrested on Sept. 14  and charged with seven counts of second degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, stemming from an incident on Aug. 1.
Christiansen-Erden was processed, arraigned and turned over to the with no bail.
Christiansen-Erden was previously arrested in relation to after Riverhead police said he allegedly approached a teller at the bank with a note demanding money, according to police reports. He was given an undetermined amount of cash and fled on foot in an unknown direction, police said.


Placing a False Bomb

A 16-year-old Riverhead boy was arrested Sept. 12 and charged with first degree placing a false bomb or hazardous substance in relation to an incident involving a false bomb report .
The boy was processed and held for arraignment, according to a police report.
