Crimes Nearby: Former South Carolina Treasurer Picked Up on DWI Charge

Thomas Ravenel is out on bail following arrest Monday in East Hampton.

The following information was supplied by the East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

EAST HAMPTON

• Former South Carolina state treasurer Thomas Jonathan J. Ravenel, whose father Arthur Ravenel Jr. was a longtime South Carolina congressman, was arrested early Monday morning in East Hampton Village on a drunken driving charge.

Ravenel, who is 50 and lives in Charleston, S.C., was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, as well as two violations for driving on the shoulder and failure to keep right.

Elected South Carolina Treasurer in 2006, Ravenel resigned in 2007 amid a drug scandal and spent seven months in federal prison on cocaine possession charges. He now plays polo.

• Daniel P. Fagan, 34, of Montauk, was arrested after police said he was driving in Montauk under the influence of drugs and with cocaine in the car on July 19.

Police received a report of a possible drunk driver in a pickup truck on Star Island Drive at about 9 a.m. When police arrived at the corner of Star Island Drive and West Lake Drive, they spoke to the caller who said a Toyota Tundra almost hit his vehicle and the sign at the entrance to Star Island. A few minutes later, police found the Tundra at the end of the road. They said the vehicle was in reverse with the brakes applied and the driver was slumped over the wheel.

The officer knocked on the window and Fagan woke up, but his vehicle started rolling backwards. Police told him to put the vehicle in park and turn off the ignition, which he did.

Fagan was charged with felony driving while ability impaired by drugs, due to a prior conviction in 2008, and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor. His truck was impounded under Suffolk County DWI seizure law. Following arraignment, Fagan was released on $2,000 bail.

RIVERHEAD

• Clifford Stokley, 57, of Riverhead, was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a felony, on July 21 at 7 p.m. Stokley was charged, police said, after they reviewed video surveillance of him stealing an air compressor from Flanders Sheet Metal, located on Flanders Road in Flanders.

• The East End DWI Task Force arrested six during a sting in Riverhead Saturday night.

Five were charged with driving while intoxicated, one was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, and two vehicles were seized.

Among them were Shamir Euceda, 23, of Hampton Bays, who was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

NORTH FORK

• Four motorists were cuffed when a task force organized to nab drunk drivers set up in Southold Saturday night.

According to Southold Town police, Kevin Manley, 34, of Westbury, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a felony, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

SOUTHAMPTON

• Maybell Rodriguez, 40, of Westhampton, was arrested on July 21 after an investigation revealed that she had stolen three checks from a house she cleans in North Sea. Police said she forged the checks and deposited $1,900 into her bank account. She was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, a misdemeanor, forgery in the second degree, a felony, and petit larceny, a misdemeanor.
