Crimes Nearby: Cops Nab Riverhead Man After Gunpoint Hold-Up

Guns found hidden on Osborne Avenue in Riverhead, police say.

The following information was supplied by the East End police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Riverhead

• A Riverhead man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with holding up a victim at gunpoint, police said. According to Riverhead Town police, Julian R. Williams, 18, was arrested at 4:10 p.m. after police said they received a report of a robbery that had taken place on Wednesday near Delores Avenue in Riverhead.

A male victim told police that he had been held up at gunpoint by two men and one woman. Police broadcast a description of the suspects to patrol units; several Riverhead police units, as well as New York State Police, conducted a search of the area for the suspects.

A short time later, the suspect was located, placed under arrested, and charged with robbery in the first degree, a felony. He was brought to police headquarters and held for arraignment.

After receiving information during the investigation, police searched for evidence around the Osborne Avenue area, and the guns that were allegedly used in the robbery, that were hidden in the area, were found by a Riverhead K-9 unit.

SOUTHAMPTON

• Police are investigating a forced break-in of a home on Cold Spring Court. According to police, they called police on Dec. 5 after it was discovered that someone broke through the front door of the home. Stolen was a set of speakers, toilet paper and copper piping worth about $2,000.
