Crimes Nearby: 18-Year-Old Charged for Attempted Murder

EAST HAMPTON

RIVERHEAD 

Riverhead Town Police  man on charges of second-degree attempted murder, assault and a slew of weapons charges after a shooting on Thursday night led them to the same suspect in the unrelated  last week.

Police said Juan F. Soyos-Pixtun shot a 20-year old Riverhead man with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun Thursday night around 10:21 p.m. near Marcy Avenue and Pulaski Street. Police arrived to find the victim on the ground suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his upper leg, police said.

Police said further investigation revealed Soyos-Pixtun as the shooter in what they said was an unrelated incident last Friday night, when police said  downtown outside the  on West Main Street at about 10 p.m. He was remanded to Suffolk County Jail and is being held on $500,000 bail.

A grocery store across the street from  was robbed at gunpoint by two men with a shotgun on Sunday night, Riverhead Town Police said. The suspects were not apprehended and police are still looking for the alleged robbers, according to a police report of the incident.

Police said they received a call about two suspicious armed men near 726 East Main Street around 10:15 p.m. When police responded, the owner of the nearby Village Grocery at 733 East Main St. told police that he had been robbed by two men with a shotgun who fled east on foot, according to a police report of the incident. The store is located just one block from the .

After searching the area with a K9 unit, police found "proceeds from the robbery" near the railroad tracks southeast of the store, as well as a loaded 12-gauge shotgun hidden under a shed at the apartment complex on 821 East Main St., according to a police report. The two suspects were not found and remain at large, police said.

SOUTHAMPTON

Following reports of between Oct. 24 and Oct. 25, employees at the Route 27 hotel said 

Police reports stated that the most recent incident came between 4:00 p.m. Nov. 3 and 8:00 a.m. on Nov. 4.

An employee at the hotel said she believes the thief could be someone previously employed by the hotel, who was released after the summer season. She said there are no signs of forced entry, and the individual could still have keys to the deadbolts.

Southampton Town police arrested a 39-year-old Water Mill woman after they said she stole almost $8,000 from two acquaintances.

Police learned that in August that Joanna Steidle stole $4,250 cash from an acquaintance of hers who lives on Bayview Drive West in North Sea, said according to Det. Sgt. Lisa Costa. The following month, Costa said Steidle stole $3,000 cash from someone she knew who lives on Parkway Drive in Noyack.

Officers charged Steidle with two counts of second degree burglary, a felony, at police headquarters on Saturday shortly before 9:00 a.m.

NORTH FORK

Matthew Larson, 23, of Southold, was rescued from the chilly waters of Southold Bay after he was thrown overboard while testing a new motor on his small boat shortly before 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 near in Southold, police said.

Larson had been in the water for about 10 minutes before a passing boater picked him up and took him to Founders Landing, where he was treated and released by members of the Southold Fire Department Rescue Squad, police said.

 Chief Martin Flatley identified the driver who hit a brick wall of building on Nov. 15 as Eileen Kiski, 76, of Greenport.

Kiski crashed her 2002 Hyundai into the bank at 10:18 a.m. after she hit the gas in an attempt to leave a parking space, thinking that the car was in reverse, Flatley said. The car lurched forward instead, jumped the curb and hit the building, he said.

Kiski, who said she did not remember what happened, was taken to for a check-up but did not suffer injuries, nor did any passersby or patrons of the bank, Flatley said.
