Crimes Nearby: DWIs and Drug Charges

The following information was supplied by police departments on the East End. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

• A Riverhead and Baiting Hollow man were arrested on Monday night after Southampton Town police said they were under the influence of, and in criminal possession of, drugs. According to police reports, Gregory Koplinka, 25, of Riverhead, was stopped for speeding at 11 p.m. while driving in Flanders. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of marijuana. He was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and cited for unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations. Philip Liquori, 24, of Baiting Hollow, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree.

SOUTHAMPTON

• William Walsh, 24, of Remsenburg, was arrested Feb. 25 at 11:15 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Sagaponack and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. He was additionally charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor, and speeding, a traffic infraction. Walsh was stopped by police after he was observed traveling 91 miles per hour in a 40-mile-per-hour zone and was found to be intoxicated, according to the arrest report.
• Renee Despins, 68, of Sag Harbor, was arrested Feb. 19 at 9:19 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton. She was, a misdemeanor, and moving from his lane unsafely, a traffic infraction. Police said Despins was pulled over after they observed her failing to obey a traffic light and veering left on the road.

EAST HAMPTON

• arrested Charles G. Waller, 57, of East Hampton, on a charge of driving while intoxicated on Feb. 21. Police said he was swerving over the double yellow line and then onto the grass on Springs Fireplace Road, near Fort Pond Boulevard, in Springs at about 6:30 p.m. After his arrest, he was held overnight. Lisa R. Rana arraigned him the next day and released him on his own recognizance.

• Four copper drain pipes were reported stolen from a house under construction on Further Lane in East Hampton sometime between Jan. 29 and Feb. 19. Town police were given an estimate of $5,400 to replace the pipes.

• Just over $7,000 in copper gutters were stolen from a house on Ocean View Lane in Amagansett between Feb. 13 and 19. The homeowner noticed several feet sections of the gutters gone on the back and side of the house.

NORTH FORK

• Thomas Hynes, 18, of Coram, was charged with three counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana on Feb. 23 at 11:24 p.m. in Mattituck, after police stopped him for a traffic violation on Route 25, police said. The officer on the scene observed marijuana in the vehicle, and after further investigation, various prescription medications were also located in vehicle along with several potentially stolen items, police said. Investigation into the circumstances surrounding those possibly stolen items recovered continues, police said.

• Grzegorz Luniewski, 36, of Riverhead, was charged with driving while intoxicated on Feb. 29 at 12:26 p.m. in the parking lot of the Mattituck Shopping Plaza, after police responded to a call of an erratic driver in Mattituck, police said. Police located Luniewski and his vehicle at the plaza, and, after investigation, Luniewski was found to be intoxicated, police said. The defendant was transported to police headquarters in Peconic, processed and held overnight for arraignment.
