Cops: Sunrise Traffic Will Be Backed-Up For Hours

Eastbound traffic on Sunrise Highway is expected to be backed up for several more hours as police investigate an early morning crash on County Road 39 in Southampton.

Southampton Fire Department 2nd Assistant Chief Chris Brenner said at 11 a.m. that he does not expect the road to open up any time soon. 

Eastbound traffic on sunrise highway is backed up west of the Hampton Bays exit. The exit itself is in stop and go traffic. Some motorists have reported that the traffic starts backing up in East Quogue. 

The accident, involving a Hampton Jitney and a second vehicle  was reported at 7:05 a.m. near the County Road 39 and St. Andrews Road intersection.
