Cops: Several Riders Hurt in Rumba Bus Accident

The bus flipped on Canoe Place Road on Sunday around 8 p.m.

Several Rumba customers were injured on Sunday evening after a bus transporting them flipped on its side.

According to Southampton Town police, a call came in about 8 p.m. that the bus had flipped on Canoe Place Road in Hampton Bays.

Sgt. James Kiernan said on Monday morning that there were injuries reported, but he could not provide additional information because the case is being handled by detectives.

Detectives were unable to be reached for comment.

Two eye witnesses told Patch it did not appear that any other cars were involved in the accident, which left the Rumba bus on its side, its nose up against a telephone pole.

For several seasons, the Rumba bus has transported customers to and from the popular waterside restaurant, which has limited parking. The bus was part of an agreement made with the owners of the restaurant and the Town of Southampton after neighbors complained that too many of the restaurant's patrons were parking on Canoe Place Road, making navigation of the road unsafe.

The management at Rumba, on it's Facebook Page, reported that the bus will be in the shop for a few days after the fender bender and is asking customers to car pool until it is fixed.

"We all know that our parking situation is tough, which is why the RumBus was introduced to our guest to offer a level of convenience. We hope to have her back up and running as soon as possible," posted Rumba.
