Cops: Parents Left 2 Young Children Alone in Car To Go Shopping At Macy's

The children were left inside the car, without a motor running, when the temperature was a chilly 39 degrees, police said.

Parents from East Hampton was arrested on Thursday after police said they left two small children alone in a cold car while they went shopping at Macy's.

According to Southampton Town police, a call came in at 4:44 p.m. Thursday about two young children seen left alone in a car outside the Macy's department store in Hampton Bays.

Police said the two children had been left in the car for more than 15 minutes, prior to the arrival of authorities. 

When police arrived, they saw the kids inside the car, which was not running; the temperature outside was approximately 39 degrees, police said.

Police located the parents inside the store and arrested them at 5:30 p.m. They were charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and brought to Southampton Town police headquarters for processing.

Police were unable to specify where the children were brought after their parents' arrest; check back with Patch for updates on the story.
