Timothy J. Shaw of Rocky Point struck a utility pole head-on.
A 34-year-old Rocky Point man was charged with a felony under Leandra’s Law on Friday after Southampton Town police said he struck a utility pole in Speonk head-on — his two-year-old was in the car.
According to police, Timothy Shaw, who had a prior DWI conviction, was slapped with a second felony for DWI, as well as with charges of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeano; open alcohol in a motor vehicle and several other traffic violations.
Police said witnesses saw Shaw driving at a high speed down on Montuak Highway, failing to navigate a turn causing him to strike an emankment, become airborne, clearing a four foot residential fence and then striking a utility pole head on, breaking it. His 2001 Subaru Forrester then came to a rest in the back yard of a residence.
