Cops: Man, Charged With DWI, Leads Police On Car, Foot Chase

A man was arrested after leading police after a foot pursuit, police said.

An East Quogue man who led officers on a police chase from Mattituck to Jamesport was charged with driving while intoxicated, police said.

According to Southold Town police, Richard T. Field, 24, of East Quogue, was arrested at 4:28 p.m. on Sunday after a car chase that began on Westphalia Road and Cox Neck Lane in Mattituck.

Police said Field failed to stop at a stop sign; he also failed to stop once the lights and sirens were activated, and led police on a pursuit that ended in Jamesport, police said.

Field fled from his vehicle on foot and was apprehended after a short foot pursuit, police said; he was found to be intoxicated, was arrested, and was transported to Southold police headquarters to be processed. Field was held awaiting arraigment, police said.
