Cops: Man Charged With DWI After Flanders Accident

Police say defendant crossed the double yellow line and collided with another car.

A Flanders man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after he allegedly crossed the double yellow line and hit another vehicle in Flanders Monday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, Flanders resident Juan Diaz, 28, was arrested on Monday at 7:48 p.m. on Flanders Road at the intersection of County Road 105 in Flanders.

Police said Diaz was operating northbound on Flanders Road when he crossed the double yellow line and collided with another motor vehicle.

Diaz was found to be intoxicated and arrested, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, unlicensed operation, a violation, moving from lane unsafely, a violation, failure to use a designated lane, a violation, and crossing 'No Passing' markings, a violation.

Diaz was transported by the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries sustained in the accident. Diaz was subsequently treated and released, and transported to the Southampton Town police headquarters for arrest processing. He was held for arraignment.

Two additional occupants from the other vehicle were transported to Peconic Bay Medical for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

The Flanders Fire Department also responded and assisted at the accident scene.
