Cops: Man Charged In Eastport Shooting Death

One man was killed and another injured in the shooting, police said.

An East Moriches man has been charged in the December shooting of an Eastport man, police said.

According to Suffolk County Police, Paul Batterson, 22, was arrested Saturday night and charged with the murder in the second degree, a felony, for the shooting death of Francisco Pirir on Dec. 8.

He was held at the fifth precinct and was slated to be arraigned Sunday morning at First District Court in Central Islip.

According to Suffolk County Police, homicide detectives, since December, have been investigating a shooting that killed one man and injured another during an incident at 3:24 a.m. on East Moriches Boulevard.

Police said Seventh Precinct police officers were called to the home after a 911 caller reported that two masked men broke into the house, announced a robbery, and shot two men, killing one.

The suspects fled the home, police said.

Pirir, 45, a resident of the home, was killed and a second male resident, who was shot in the hand, was treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

The investigation is continuing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call the Homicide Squad at 631-852-6492 or anonymously to Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
