Cops: Homeless Man Steals Car in Hampton Bays

Two men were charged with felonies in connection with the theft.

Southampton Police have charged two men in connection with a car stolen in Hampton Bays on Monday night. One of the men, cops said is homeless.

Police said they received a call at 10:00 p.m alerting them that a 2010 Mitsubishi Outlander was taken from a driveway on Shinneock Road.

During the investigation, they managed to locate the car on Flanders Road near the intersection of Bellows Pond Road. Inside were two men, John Z. Martinolich, 28, who police said is homeless, and Stephen Mineo, 18, of Hampton Bays.

Martinolich was charged with grand larceny in the third degree, a Felony; criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, also a felony; criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, misdemeanor, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree, a misdemeanor.

Mineo was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a felony.

Both men were taken to police headquarters and are being held for arraignment.
