Cops: Hampton Bays Man Caught With 14-Round Glock Magazine

Westhampton Beach Police also charged the 44-year-old with DWI.

A Hampton Bays man was charged with unlawfully carrying a 14-round Glock magazine by Westhampton Beach police on Feb. 25.

Robert Ackeckles, Jr, 44, was slapped with the misdemeanor under a new New York State law that went into effect on Jan. 15. The law, which previously allowed for people to carry a 10-round magazine, now only permits for a person to carry a 7-round magazine.

Ackeckles was further charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and various traffic violations, including speeding and failing to maintain his lane of travel.

Police said they pulled Ackeckles over on Old Riverhead Road at 10:36 p.m. Also in his car was a pistol, which he had a permit for.

Editor’s Note: The above information was supplied by the Westhampton Beach Village Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Since 1994 it has been illegal to have a magazine holding more than ten rounds unless it was manufactured before September of that year and was dated before that time. Bottom line: the law has been in effect for almost twenty years. NOW do you believe it is "disgraceful" for the law to be enforced?

Ralebird if it was pre band it was legal, however can you please explain to me that in your mind and cuomo's mind why is it ok for criminals to use ten round magazines to kill people you think this is going to stop mass murder. IT'S NOT you need to change the laws on crimes that involve a gun assault, attempt murder, murder all get death penalty. 280 people killed by assault and long rifles each year. 8000 murdered by illegal hand guns and knives and over 80,000.00 killed by doctors misdiagnosed medical conditions. so you see it's not long rifle or assault rifle doing all the killings but you can make more laws that will not work,

Victoria, you are correct about this absurdness. The reporter also, as most liberal reporters, doen't know about what he speaks. Glock does not make a fourteen round magazine, fifteen, seventeen and more, but not a fourteen. Another v=case of mis-information. Ten round mags are okay but only seven rounds loaded. I quiried several LE personnel as to the number of rounds in their mags. All are criminals, and I don't hold fault to any. The SAFE Act did not exempt them from the restrictions on we law abiding citizens. Also they cannot, legally, enter a school zone with a firearm, loaded or unloaded. So therefore if, GOD forbid, there was an incident they could not enter armed and squelch the situation.

Cuomo had to take his bar exam 5 times... how is it possible that he can write legislation and get it signed by the majority of state lawmakers who admit they signed it without even reading it? The (UN) SAFE ACT is a bad law.. Passed as "emergency legislation", without due process. Needs to be repealed. The police d/t the DWI arrest are forced to confiscate the firearm, unload and voucher and charge with the crime.. The reporter writing the article was doing his job.. This is creating the scrutiny of public input that the unconstitutional law never had.. They should repeal the 10 round law...
