Cops Crack Down at Tiana Beach Over Memorial Day Weekend

Nine citations reported, seven on Sunday, during long weekend.

Police sent a message to out-of-towners looking to make Tiana Beach their personal playground over Memorial Day weekend: not here.

Southampton Town cops cited nine different individuals over the long weekend at the beach, most on public urination and open container charges.

Police announced that 17 individuals had been arrested on DWI charges over the long weekend, and a number of other arrests for quality of life issues – such as drinking in public, disorderly conduct, and more – were made throughout town.

At Tiana Beach, police cited seven people* over a two-hour span last Sunday afternoon. Two men and a woman were cited for having an open container – including vodka and Budweiser – and three men were arrested within minutes of each other around 5:30 p.m. for public urination in the parking lot. A 30-year-old Mahopac resident was also cited for littering in the parking lot.

The following day, two women were cited, one for mixing a drink in her car, and another for urinating in the parking lot.

“We usually try to step up over long weekends,” said Lt. Lawrence Schurck. “There are more people out here and more things to keep an eye out for.”
