Cops: Bicyclist Airlifted After Riding into Parked Car

Man remains in stable condition, according to Quogue police.

A bicyclist was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital Wednesday afternoon after he rode into the back of a parked SUV on the side of Montauk Highway in Quogue, according to police.

Quogue Police Lt. Chris Isola said that the man, whose identity was not released, was traveling eastbound about 1,000 feet east of Quogue Street around 12:30 when he struck the parked Chevy, whose driver had pulled over to use his cell phone.

The bicyclist is listed in stable condition and was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, Isola said.ย

Westhampton Ambulance responded to the scene of the accident, transporting the bicyclist to a medvac chopper, while Quogue Police assisted with traffic control.

Montauk Highway was shut down for about an hour in the area and the accident remains under investigation.
