The following is a round-up of headlines related to cops and crime this week.

1. Incident Report: Ex-Tenant Suspected in Theft

A landlord reported that between April 21 and April 24, over $260 worth of lighting was stolen from his property.   

The East Quogue man told police he believed the damage was done by a former tenant whose lease was not renewed, and that five outdoor lights and 130 feet of underground cable was stolen. However he did not request police to pursue the investigation, just asking to document the incident.

Cops: Substitute Teacher Had Sexual Relationship With Student

Suffolk County police have arrested a Hampton Bays Middle School substitute teacher whom they say had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old student earlier this year while working as a substitute teacher in a different school district.

3. Released Convict's Lawsuit Against Police Dismissed

A district court judge Monday morning dismissed a lawsuit that had been filed against the Southampton Town Police Department by a convicted drug dealer whose sentence was vacated in May 2012, Newsday reports.

5. Gym Teacher Pleads Not Guilty to 8-Count Indictment

Thomas Sheppard, a four-year Westhampton Beach gym teacher who was charged with a felony in March for allegedly recording students in a gym locker room was arraigned before Judge Barbara Kahn in Riverhead on Monday morning on an 8-count indictment handed down by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
