Car Fire Shut Down Westbound Lanes on Sunrise in Hampton Bays

No injures were reported.

At around 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the responded to a car fire on Sunrise Highway near the exit 66 ramp. The car was in the westbound lane.

John Tedesco, first assistant chief for the Hampton Bays Fire Department, who was first at the scene, said he arrived to find the car fully engulfed in flames.

Fire police and two engines with 12 firefighters arrived right behind Tedesco and managed to put the fire out within five minutes.

Tedesco said because the car was fully engulfed and it is difficult to say what type of car it was other than it appeared to be a four-door sedan.

The vehicle's occupants, he said, had exited the car with no injuries.
