Possible Shooting in Westhampton Beach

A police investigation is underway, according to village mayor.

Authorities are investigating a possible shooting in Westhampton Beach on Friday afternoon.

Police and emergency responders are on the scene of the alleged incident, located at Stevens Lane in Westhampton Beach; yellow police crime scene tape has been set up around the entire house.

According to Westhampton Village Beach Mayor Conrad Teller, possible shots may have been fired in the village, but he could not provide details about the alleged incident.

"We have a police investigation going on. That's all I know," he said.

Teller said he was not immediately aware of the facts of the investigation and could provide no further details.

When asked for comment, Southampton Town Police said they could not immediately provide information. 

Chief Ray Dean, of the Westhampton Beach Police Department also could not provide details. He stated, "It is an active investigation at the moment."

Westhampton Beach Village Police, Southampton Town Police, Suffolk County Crime Scene officials, and Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance members were at the scene. A medical examiner arrived at approximately 3 p.m.
