New York State and Southampton Town police units were on the scene at TD Bank in Hampton Bays after a bank robbery was reported Monday afternoon shortly before closing.
Sgt. Michael Burns confirmed that a robbery was reported at the branch, located at 191 West Montauk Highway. It is believed it occurred between 4:30 and 5 p.m., though officials could not immediately provide any further information about a suspect.
State police were on the scene with a K-9 unit to search for the suspect and Southampton Town traffic control officers shut down E. Tiana Road heading southbound. The Montauk Highway entrance to the bank was also blocked off with traffic cones.
Police officers were observed inside the branch, which regularly closes at 5 p.m. on Mondays, dusting for fingerprints and interviewing employees.
Two employees interviewed on scene and one who picked up the phone declined to comment.
