Southampton Police Log: Felony Conspiracy; Hampton Bays Sex Offender Arrested

Southampton Town Police reports through Nov. 4

The following information was supplied by the Southampton Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Conspiracy

•Police on Nov. 2 charged John Woods, 70, of Riverside, with a felony count of conspiracy in the second degree. According police, Woods was the subject of a search warrant that was served at his home on Old Quogue Road at 6:30 a.m. The East End Drug Task Force said the warrant was served after a long-term narcotics distribution investigation targeted Woods.

Harassment

• Elvis Garcia, 27, of Hampton Bays, was charged with second-degree harassment, a misdemeanor on Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. after police said he was involved in an altercation with his neighbor on East Tiana Road. Cops report Garcia shattered his neighbor’s front door and punched, kicked and scratched the victim. Garcia was additionally charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor.

Failing to Register as a Sex Offender

• Kourtney Hughes, 27, of Southampton, was arrested on Nov. 2 on a felony charge of failure to register as a sex offender. Hughes was charged at 12:20 a.m. at police headquarters in Hampton Bays.   

DWI

• On Nov. 3, Raymond Boyd, 20, of Hampton Bays, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated and attempting to flee the scene, a misdemeanor, after police stopped him on Lyncliff Road in Hampton Bays at 11:40 p.m. Cops said Boyd did not initially pull over after he was signaled to do so.

•On Oct. 30, James Chism, 43, of Hampton Bays, was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, on West Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays after officers stopped his vehicle at 2:20 a.m.  

 •Silviano Orea, 43, of Shirley, was arrested Nov. 4 in Westhampton after police stopped his vehicle on Stewart Avenue at 11:20 a.m. Orea was charged with drunk driving, a misdemeanor.

Issuing a Bad Check

•Joy Kauffman, 48, of Westhampton, was arrested Nov. 2 at her home in Westhampton and charged with one count of issuing a bad check, a class B misdemeanor. Police said Kauffman was being sought on arrest warrants for other bad check charges in Speonk, Quogue, Riverhead Town and Westhampton Beach Village. Kauffman was additionally charged with false personation, a misdemeanor, after cops said she provided them with a false name after being questioned.
