Vandals desecrated five American flags and four poles that graced the East Quogue village green in the overnight hours of Thursday, according to the Town of Southampton.
Only the largest flag at the popular park remained flying.
The flags were found laying on the ground covered in dirt and mulch on Friday morning by residents, who notified the town.
The town has since replaced the flags that hung on the lamp posts and have cleaned up the park.
