Shining Silver Sun

The beautiful beaches of Long Island aren't all that's shining this summer

It's just beautiful out here on Eastern Long Island, where vacationers are trying to take in all the sights and sounds of the final weeks of summer.  There are exciting outdoor concerts, art shows, farmers markets and farmstands filled to the brim, and of course, the bright blue waves of the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island Sound and the bays.  How lucky we Long Islanders are to live here.

You've probably read that the World Village Fair Trade Market is holding its 15% Store-wide Summer Sale by now, but we wanted to be sure you knew we just received a shipment of shimmering silver jewelry from Mexico, adding to your collection of accessories for the season.  Bracelets in silver with dried flowers under glass have arrived, along with myriads of shapes and sizes in the sterling silver earrings. There is a lion, ladybugs, sailboats, dragonflies, cats and inlaid abstract designs.  It might be a bit early to think of Christmas, but if you're only here for the summer months, you could pick up a few wonderful gifts while the sale is going on.

Our work at the World Village Fair Trade Market is 100% volunteer-run as a non-profit organization, too, so when you stop in, feel free to ask us about our orphans in Kenya and Zambia.  We've been supporting vulnerable, young children for 10 years because without our help, they can't pay for their school fees, eat or live in a safe place.  It doesn't take much to support them, just $20-$30 can feed an orphan for a month.  There are lots of ways to support them, but food comes first. Your gift is tax-deductible and goes a long way to keep children growing up in a healthy environment with an education.

We really hope you will enjoy your time with us on the East End this summer and make a visit to the World Village Fair Trade Market.  It's more than a store ... it's a place where lives are being saved one purchase at a time.
