Fair Trade Fall - What's New At The Store

Fair Trade is where your dollars really help create more joy and harmony.

Greetings from the World Village Fair Trade Market in Hampton Bays. I've been writing a lot about our non-profit organization, Sobornost For The World Foundation, but I haven't given you much information on what's happening at the World Village. Let's make up for lost time.

As we say goodbye to summer, we begin looking forward to the colorful season of Fall.  We live in a world of fair trade where we see an abundance of color all around the store.  There are headbands decorated with working women all lined up in every color of thread made by the backstrap weavers of Guatemala.  We see baby "Dolly Llama" stuffed animals made of organic cotton and made so they're soft, cuddly and colorful from Peru.  There's always a plethora of baskets coming in from all over the globe such as leather-handled "Bolgatanga" baskets from Ghana, Cambodian bamboo baskets, Hogla Leaf baskets of India, and palm baskets from the east to west.

Throughout the Autumn season, we watch the leaves fall around us and the sky change from steamy hot yellow to breezy bright blue.  So it is with fair trade jewelry and purses where the shades go from light and beachy to deeper jewel shades of the earth. In our jewelry and accessories section, you will stumble on just the right accent for your upcoming event from somewhere like Uganda or Kenya with a paper beaded necklace made from recycled magazines or newsprint, strung with shiny beads, chain and charm.  Or you might prefer the glistening silver of Mexico jewelry in Aztec designs or loops.  Right now we have abalone watches that you won't find anywhere else that are striking not only the right hour, but the eye that sees it as well.

The World Village Fair Trade Market has so many products for your home and gift-giving that you will be surprised we could fit them all in.  We're very committed to the fair trade principles of fair wages, environmental sustainability, safe working conditions, transparency and long-term partnerships with producer groups because we know people are being treated fairly and there are no children or sweatshops involved.

We believe that by selling fair trade, we are helping the world to maintain an economic balance where people are more important than profits and the planet is cared for through the process.

When we open our store in the mornings and close the door at the end of the day, we know we have done what we could to help the world be a better place.  We, the volunteers of the World Village Fair Trade Market, love what we do and we know you will enjoy shopping where your dollars really save lives and create more harmony in the world.

We also are happy to provide you with assistance in business/corporate gifts; bridal favors or gifts; seasonal gift baskets; and can come to your business/worship/community to sell fair trade or give a talk.  Happy Fall Fairtrading.
