It's been a great summer so far at the World Village Fair Trade Market, where new faces, as well as familiar ones, grace our little gift shop each week. We wanted to offer you a store-wide summer sale of 15% off everything just to celebrate our 10 years of selling Fair Trade in Hampton Bays and because it helps so many people the world over. So let me take a few minutes to let you know what you'll find when you arrive!
We have many interesting products, such as colorful carved soapstone hippos and elephans from Kenya, arpillera story quilts from Peru, colorful batiked boys cotton shirts and girls dresses from Ghana and men's shirts as well. We carry musical instruments from Ghana, too, as well as smaller items like bamboo flutes, panflutes and rainsticks. There is a new shipment of sparkling silver jewelry bracelets, rings and earrings from Mexico as well as many other pieces of jewelry from around the world. We are stocked with almost every country's organic fair trade coffees and tea where it is grown sustainably.
For babies, you will find hand-crocheted booties in pink, blue, coral, lavender and blue, as well as matching bibs and wide-rimmed cotton hats with ties. For the home, there are pillows from Indonesia, wooden salad servers, windchimes, baskets and bowls, as well as colorful round candles that float flower candles in them! Also in the candle department, there are several shapes and sizes of South African hand-painted candles. Among all these items, there are small and large pieces of Haitian metal art for your home, garden or gift list shaped into suns, birds, hearts and crosses.
In the religious department, you can find rosaries, crosses and angels made in a variety of ways, such as volcanic ash from Mt. Pinatubo in the Philippines or back-strap woven fabrics from Guatemala. There are several unique nativities from around the world for those of you who shop early for Christmas gifts, too.
Handbags, small coin purses, scarves, hats, a few colorful sarongs/shawls and summer dresses are on hand for women, as well as shell and tagua jewelry. There are hand-crafted all occasion cards from Rwanda and gift bags made from cotton rags in Bangladesh, too.
One day when it is raining or cloudy and you are looking for something interesting to do indoors, we hope you will make a trip to the World Village Fair Trade Market in Hampton Bays. You'll soon discover there is a way to shop where every dollar you spend is helping, either a country artisan or grower, or one of the many orphans we support in Kenya and Zambia. Your purchases are put to good use because we are a 100% volunteer-run, non-profit organization, Sobornost For The World Foundation, giving all we can to end global poverty. If you want to help the world, it can be as easy as shopping Fair Trade at the World Village Fair Trade Market!
