Poll: Should Cable Barriers Extend Along Sunrise Highway?

Newsday reports that the cable barriers have proved effective on Sunrise Highway.

Cable barriers installed along Sunrise Highway have proved effective in thwarting head-on accidents, Newsday reported on Sunday.

The Newsday article specifically said that barriers constructed on Sunrise Highway and the Long Island have prevented 22 drivers from crossing to oncoming traffic this year.

With several head-on accidents in Westhampton-Hampton Bays this year, including one on where an East Hampton man was killed and another on , Patch wants to know: Do you think cable barriers should be installed along the stretch on Sunrise Highway between Westhampton and Hampton Bays?

Instead of those attrocious cable barriers, why don't they simply plant trees? They would provide impact attenuation, a barrier to oncoming headlights, sound blocking, they're maintainence free, cheap, simple, easy to install, natural, a habitat for birds, scenic, and oh yeah, THEY CLEAN THE AIR!

Trees will kill people. what happens when you hit a tree? It doesnt move and you die.
