An Easter Message by Rev. Eric Rey

Ray says Easter is about Resurrection.

Spring is my favorite time of year.  Yes, the weather has something to do with it.  After the long, cold, and dreary days of winter, the warm sunshine, fresh breezes and sprouting plant life of spring are sure inviting.  They are cause for celebration.  Springtime speaks of renewal, regeneration, newness of life, and hope.  I must admit though, the weather is not the only reason I love the spring.  Springtime is also the time for celebrating Easter.

For many Easter is a day set aside for eggs hunts, pancake fundraisers, family dinners, or dressing up and going to church. All these are fine. But Easter is really about so much more. Easter is about Resurrection. That’s why I prefer to use the more biblical term Resurrection Day.

Easter, Resurrection Day, is the day we remember and celebrate the resurrection of The Lord and Savior Jesus Christ from the grave. Spiritual renewal, regeneration, newness of life, and hope are all made possible to us because of Jesus’ Resurrection. Jesus was crucified and died on the cross for our sins. His lifeless body was laid to rest and sealed in the guarded tomb. But on the third day, Jesus rose again, just as He said He would do. “He is Risen,” declared the angel to the bewildered ladies at the empty tomb. Jesus is risen indeed.

Because Jesus is risen we too can be risen. By sincerely believing in Jesus’ death on the cross for our sins and His resurrection from the dead we can be, “Born Again.” The bible calls this spiritual resurrection or rebirth salvation from sin, death and hell. In addition, we can also have the hope of our bodies’ future physical resurrection in either the Rapture or the Resurrection.

On Resurrection Day, let’s open our bibles and read the four Gospel writers’ stirring accounts of the Jesus’ Resurrection (Matthew 27:62-28:20; Mark 15:22-16:20; Luke 23:50-24:49; John 19:38-20:31). Let’s allow the Holy Scripture build faith in our hearts.  Let’s celebrate and share the victorious message of Easter. Jesus is Alive, and we are too! Halleluiah!
