100 Things To Do #76: Keep Cool at Meschutt Beach

What better way to cool off this summer than to head to the beach?  on Canal Road in Hampton Bays offers all you need to beat the heat.

Close to the heart of town, this beach is a quick getaway in the summer months.

This park, which sits off the Great Peconic Bay offers a playground, restrooms, showers and concession with a dining area. And on the Great Peconic Bay on the east side of the Shinnecock Canal, Meschutt is shallow enough to let the kids have a great time on the sand and surf. Windsurfing and sailing area is also available. 

There is often live music at the Meschutt Beach Hut concession in the evening. The hut is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a variety of grilled selections and a raw bar. The raw bar's choices consist of clams, crab cakes, calamari and mussels.  

Every night of the week brings a different dinner and music special. From Lobster Fest to Midweek Mambo, there is something for everyone. With outdoor seating this is the perfect spot to grab a bite and watch the sun rise or set in a casual setting. A unique find close to home, the Beach Hut also offers catering. To add to this already unique beach, Meschutt is now one of the eleven county parks that have recently received .  You can bring your laptop or iPad and surf the net or even spend a day at the beach working in your swimsuit. A summer retreat indeed.
