Community Mourns Boardy Barn Bouncer

The Hampton Bays community was shocked to learn Monday that Jason Hobson, know as H-Bomb, died suddenly.

Sunday's laughter and celebration of the coming summer season turned to tears on Monday as the Hampton Bays community mourned the loss of one of their own.

Jason Hobson, bouncer at the Boardy Barn, known affectionately as H-Bomb, died suddenly in his sleep only a day after friends shared a sunny Sunday afternoon with him at the popular club.

As word of his death spread to the community, a flood of Facebook messages poured in from friends and loved ones mourning his tragic loss — Hobson was not only known as a bouncer at the Boardy Barn, but at other local spots. He was also a fisherman, fishing the local waters since the age of 12.

On its Facebook Page, the Boardy Barn wrote, "Rest in Peace Jason - "H-Bomb." You will be missed dearly."

Other local establishments also had thoughts for Jason Hobson and his family.  Buckley's Inn Between wrote, "Our thoughts are with Jason's family, H Bomb, you will be missed, you truly were a welcome smile;"

Shuckers Lobster Bar shared, "Dont tell me this town ain't got no heart !! Nothing but love Jason;" and 1 North Steakhouse posted, "Hampton bays lost a great man, friend, and legend... RIP Jason "H-Bomb" Hobson.... Sending a hanger steak to heaven for you big buddy... We love you!" And Molnar's Landing posted, "For all of us who knew Jason Hobson, we knew him as a great man and a friend. Let there be calm seas and fair winds in heaven. RIP H-Bomb!!! You will be greatly missed by your all of your family and friends!"

"We lost one of our own today. Jason, I won't forget the last hug you gave me yesterday. You were a true gentleman. The Boardy Barn and Hampton Bays will never be the same," wrote Matthew Curran, a long-time friend.

Leslie Bellows, of the Hampton Maid in Hampton Bays, where Hobson was a regular, said Hobson was "a big guy with a gentle soul."

"He would give you the shirt off his back," she said. "He loved fishing and his mom."

To help the Hobson family, Bellows, whose daughter graduated Hampton Bays High School with Hobson, said the Hampton Maid is offering a $20 eggs benedict breakfast  — Hobson's favorite — to raise money for Hobson's family.

Services will be held on Thursday and Friday from 2:00 p.m.  to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m.  to 9:00 p.m. at the Ronald Scott's Funeral Home in Hampton Bays and a funeral will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. followed by a private gathering for immediate family only at the Boardy Barn.

The Boardy Barn will be holding a moment of silence on Sunday during their regular hours and plans to hold a memorial service in the future.
