Voters: You Need To Decide Who You Can Really Trust

Remarks made by former Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot who is waging a WRITE-IN Campaign for the 2011 General Election - FRNCA Meet the Candidates Forum held on October 12

As a for Southampton Town Supervisor in the General Election to be held on November 8, I was welcomed to make a presentation at the “Meet the Candidates” forum hosted by the Flanders-Riverside-Northampton Association (FRNCA) on October 12.  I am running to oppose the current Supervisor, Anna Throne-Holst, and to offer voters my strength of character, tireless commitment to good government, and proven record of accomplishments.

My statement at this forum was as follows:  “Thank you FRNCA for this opportunity.  I am Linda Kabot and I am running as a WRITE-IN Candidate for Town Supervisor.  What’s this election all about?  I think it’s really about 2 things:  CHOICE and TRUST.  I am providing you with A REAL CHOICE and encouraging you to WRITE-IN my name for Supervisor.  I have the courage.  I have the know-how and experience.  I NEED YOU to stand with me on Election Day, November 8.

FOLKS:  THE FACTS DO NOT LIE.   I stood up in 2007 to take responsibility and right the ship.  As Supervisor and Chief Fiscal Officer, I raised the red flags about the sagging economy, cut millions from the Town Budget, and worked tirelessly for you – the taxpayer.  Throughout 2008 and 2009, I brought the past problems to light and I led the corrective actions to address the sloppy bookkeeping errors, eliminate deficits, and present structurally-balanced budgets.  I provided the strong leadership necessary to safeguard our Town credit rating, cut government spending, and enable the Town to have a brighter future.

My opponent did not do the heavy-lifting – The record reflects that I did - working with key Town administrators.  And, she did vote in favor of those balanced budgets and corrective tax levies I proposed, while obstructing other cost-cutting initiatives I made.  Months later, she has now dusted them off to call them her own.

DON’T BUY INTO MY OPPONENT’S MANIPULATION OF THE TRUTH.  Some people are masterful at spin.  Others are skilled at getting things done. THE FACTS DO NOT LIE.

YOU NEED TO DECIDE WHO CAN YOU REALLY TRUST to best represent you.  As a lifelong resident, property owner and taxpayer, I can provide BETTER REPRESENTATION as your Town Supervisor.

SEND A MESSAGE FROM THE PEOPLE THAT WE NEED SOLID VALUES-BASED LEADERSHIP.  We need a person at the top who won’t do you wrong, won’t lie to you, mislead you, and get all wrapped in ego.

We need a Supervisor who has provided sound fiscal management, is focused on the ideals of less government, less spending, and working in the best interests of our residents and taxpayers, including more concerted efforts to provide proactive code enforcement and economic development for this northwest corner of Southampton Town.

I am grateful for the support of so many people from all walks of life, from all political stripes, throughout Southampton Town because IT IS about CHOICE & TRUST.  The only endorsement that really matters is the people’s endorsement on Election Day. Because my name is NOT on the ballot – I NEED YOU to write my name on your paper ballot when you go to the polls.  It’s EASY to Vote by WRITE-IN.  Go to the bottom of column #15 for Supervisor and IN THE WRITE IN BOX, PRINT LINDA KABOT.  Instruction cards are provided in the back of the room and are available on my website: LINDAKABOT.com.   It would be my honor to serve you once again as your Town Supervisor.  Thank you.”

In addition to Throne-Holst’s allotted three minutes to make remarks, the bulk of the evening focused on the credentials and viewpoints of the four candidates vying for the two Town Council seats (Bill Hughes, Christine Scalera, Bridget Fleming, and Brad Bender).
