Linda Kabot: 'Send a Message That You Want More Effective Leadership'

Remarks made by Linda Kabot, Write-In Candidate for Southampton Town Supervisor at the Speonk-Remsenburg Candidates Forum, October 6, 2011.

As a in the 2011 General Election challenging current Town Supervisor Anna Throne Holst, I welcomed the opportunity to participate in the “Meet the Candidates” forum hosted by the Speonk-Remsenburg Civic Association on Thursday, October 6.

My statement was as follows: “Thank you for providing this opportunity.  I am Linda Kabot.  On Election Day, I am asking for your vote of confidence for the position of Town Supervisor. I am running as a WRITE-IN candidate to provide you with a choice.

Send a message that you want more effective leadership. You want open, honest government.  Bring back a knowledgeable supervisor who gets things done and done right.  Be wise to my opponent’s political posturing.  Folks:  THE FACTS DO NOT LIE.  Some people are good at getting the job done. Others are good at spin. You decide.

Send a message from the people that it’s not about building cozy relationships. It’s about COURAGE and strength of character.  It’s not about playing footsie with union leaders or lying down with special interests.  And, it’s not about political party labels.  It’s about delivering good government for the people of this great town.

It’s about sound fiscal management, less spending, less government and working in the best interests of our taxpayers and residents.

Voters:  I think what it all boils down to is TRUST.

You need to decide who can you really trust to best represent you.

As a lifelong resident, property owner and taxpayer, I can provide BETTER REPRESENTATION as your Town Supervisor.

Because my name is not on the ballot – I need you to write my name on your paper ballot when you go to the polls.  It’s easy to vote by WRITE-IN.

Go to the bottom of the column for supervisor and in the write in box, print Linda Kabot.  Instruction cards are provided in the back of the room and are available on my website: www.lindakabot.com

Remember to spell Kabot correctly with a letter K. The key is Kabot.

Please vote for Bill Hughes and Christine Scalera for Town Council and LET’S MAKE HISTORY IN THE TOWN OF SOUTHAMPTON!   WRITE-IN LINDA KABOT FOR SUPERVISOR.  Thank you.”

In addition to Throne-Holst’s allotted two minutes to make remarks, the bulk of the evening focused on the credentials and viewpoints of the two candidates for County Legislature (Jay Schneiderman and Corneilus Kelly), the four candidates vying for the two Town Council seats (Bill Hughes, Christine Scalera, Bridget Fleming, and Brad Bender) and the seven candidates running for the five Town Trustee seats (Fred Havemeyer, Eric Shultz, Scott Horowitz, Ed Warner, Jon Semlear, Bill Pell, and Janet Beck).
