Foul Fowl at Waldbaums

Foul fowl at Waldbaums... again!

The other night, I went to Waldbaum's in Westhampton Beach and bought 2 rock cornish hens to make for dinner. When I opened the package, they stunk!!! Then, I looked at the label, and saw that they had expired 5 days earlier!! I went back to the store to return them. Then I made another attempt at the meat department, as the meal still had to be cooked. Lo and behold, there was another rotten hen waiting to be purchased, along with a lot of other expired meats. Ridiculous!!! This has happened to me before.  On Thanksgiving 2011, I purchased a foul turkey. It's happened other times as well.  I've finally learned my lesson and would highly recommend that before purchasing any meat at Waldbaums, one checks the expiration date!  It's too bad they're the only convenient food store in town.  I think I'll travel to other more diligent and careful food stores in the future.  Shame on you, Waldbaums!!

Not only do they sell meat with expired dates, I have purchased meat that has a few days left on the expiration and it is still rotten. I swear when it doesn't sell in time they just put on a new sticker with a different date.

And the Village Board thinks there's nothing wrong with this supermarket? Please, please, please let the new supermarket go in on Old Riverhead Road! What that'll do is force Waldbaums to improve...or get out! Supermarkets are supposed to be welcoming. This one is far from that and one of the worst supermarkets I've ever been in.

All sooooo true!!! So why does Waldbaums get to have a monopoly? Maybe Waldbaums has been making donations, campaign contributions, and other perks, to local politicians in order to prevent the competition. Why is the town making it so difficult for a new supermarket to break ground? Seems rotten and fishy to me.

Why is it that when 42 residents request with a petition to change the speed limit on 3 blocks in the village from 30 mph to 25 mph, this was seen important enough to put on the trustees agenda within a couple of months with a public hearing at last weeks meeting. And when Mr Mendelson requests to be heard and it is an issue that definitely needs to be heard and discussed in a public forum he is seen as an enemy ,it's unfair to him and it's unfair to us the residents. I will give you a great recommendation we are very lucky to have 2 establishments in this village that I frequent every day for fresh fish and fresh meat and chicken Cor-J & Cow Palace ,they are friendly and very nice. I had the same problem with outdated spoiled meat at the WHB Waldbaums a few years ago and when I returned it they said no one was in the store to authorize a refund. I regret leaving it on the floor in the store instead of taking it to the Department of Health.

Subi Chockalinga said via Facebook, "This happened to me last year.... i haven't gone back since. I'm all for supporting places in Westhampton Beach, but not when their deli is selling expired meats and leads a buyer to think twice about buying something elsewhere in the store. Since 2011, I've gone to riverhead, patchogue, and as far as hicksville for certain organic foods and other items that one can't find in stores around here, but it goes without saying that I'm not shocked this happened again in Waldbaums. You think they would've learned the first time when this happened? How many more times is this going to happen. Who has to get sick? Shame on you Waldbaums. Shame on you!"

I think Cor J and Cow Palace are great. But, sometimes I have to do a big shopping, for items that are not there. I will not go to Waldbaums anymore, but I do drive to Wild By Nature in Hampton Bays for all kinds of wonderful things (all natural, gluten free, nuts, etc). It's ridiculous that there are plans for a new food store in WHB, someone(s) who is ready to proceed, many homeowners (and taxpayers) who want it, and the town won't allow it!!! Maybe we should get a large group together and show up at the next meeting to support the new supermarket proposal. As taxpayers, we should be allowed to have a voice. This is America, after all!!

Shame on you, Waldbaums, is right!! But, unfortunately, they don't care enough to learn from their mistakes. Must be nice to have a monopoly in WHB! : /

I have had the same experience at home in the Waldbaums in Great neck ! What is going on with this company?

The Center Morchies Waldbaums is just as bad. Over six months ago I picked up one of their "How are we doing" and wrote my complaints from rotten meat, to empty shelves the day of a sale and several other complaints. Never heard a word. I then called the main office in NJ and was informed that the flyers were old and had the wrong address on it. Told the person on the phone my complaints, along with name and address. To date still no response and conditions are still the same. I only shop there if there is a good sale on a packaged item like cleaning supples. Never buy fish/meat/deli there. Bottom line THEY DON"T CARe! Linda

I think they need some serious competition... They're too smug and too lax! YUCK!
