Holiday Gift Idea: Historical East Quogue Figurines

Give the gift of history.

As the holiday season quickly approaches, the East Quogue Historical Society has brought back out its historical figurines that the society said can make for great holiday gifts.

The society, according to Marilyn Downs Aldrich, president of the society, has six figurines available, each resembling historical spots in the hamlet, which was founded in 1673 as Fourth Neck, then renamed Atlanticville in 1858 and changed to East Quogue in 1891.

The figurines, Aldrich said have been purchased over the years through a company, called the Cat's Meow, which is based out of Ohio.

" A lot of people don't know we even have them for sale," said Aldrich, who added that the society does make a bit of money off each sale.

Among the figurines available are ones of the new firehouse, which was built in 1950; The Walker House, which was built in 1871 for William F. Halsey as a lodge; The East Quogue United Methodist Church, which was constructed in in 1882; the East Quogue Elementary School, which was built in 1883 with the bell in tower presented by teachers in 1901; The first East Quogue Firehouse, built in 1921; and the Welcome to East Quogue sign.

Each of the figures are $20 with the exception of the East Quogue sign, which is $12.

The figures can be purchased by calling Aldrich 631-653-5517.
