Despite the snow and a flight delay, the Hampton Bays community turned out on Saturday to welcome home a hero.

Just in time for Christmas, US Army Sgt. David Worrell, of East Quogue, arrived home from his 9 month deploy to Afghanistan, which followed a tour in Iraq, which started in 2010 and ended in July 2011.

Worrell arrived at Islip's MacArthur Airport to a hero's welcome with family, friends, the Legion Riders and even Santa there to great him. His mom, Karen wanted to make the event special for her youngest son, who enlisted just months after graduating high school.

As he arrived on Montauk Highway, community members lined the street to cheer as the Hampton Bays Fire Department raised a flag in his honor.

Following his arrival, Hampton Bays American Legion post held a reception where Worell was presented with Certificate of Appreciation from the Town of Southampton.
