Art Gallery at the Quogue Library: A Walk on the Wild Side - Monotypes with Collage by Dianne Martin

Dianne Martin, a part-time resident of Southold, produces her monotypes in her Long Island City studio.  Her work begins with an oil monotype on paper, which she develops further using materials from nature.    These could be twigs, weeds or feathers gathered from the street or from the beaches and fields of the North Fork.

The artists states “I am looking for that initial image to grow into a compelling visual world that bridges reality and imagination.  Birds are often inhabitants, but not as particular species.  Birds bring life, grace and, at times, conflict to this visual world.”

Ms. Martin’s work has been exhibited in commercial galleries, alternative spaces and artist-run galleries in New York City as well as the North Fork.  She most recently participated in the “Winners Show” at the East End Arts gallery in Riverhead as a Best in Show winner from 2011.  She received a BFA in painting at the Rhode Island School of Design and an MA in painting from the University of Iowa.  She is represented in many corporate and private collections, including those of Pfizer, Pepsico, David Rockefeller Jr. and Credit Suisse First Boston.
