4th annual Hampton bays fire department memorial fluke tournament

The Hampton  Bays Fire Department Benjamin "Benny" Lupia  Memorial Fluke tournament was started four years ago by the members of the department.  With the passing of our eldest member Benjamin Lupia, who was also one of the longest active responding members, we started to think of how we could memorialize a man with such accomplishments.  We came up with this fluke tournament.  Fishing was Mr. Lupia's favorite hobby, you would find him at the canal fishing any chance he could get. This will be the fourth year of our tournament and continue to grow from 22 boats to 48 last year,  expecting to increase that number this year.  We use this tournament for two major reasons, first to honor Mr. Lupia in all of the achievements he had made at the Hampton Bays Fire Department, and also to raise money for our department.  The money we raise goes to help with the various department functions that occur every year, however, a lot of our money gets donated back into the community.  We give to the schools, local businesses, sports teams, other fire departments, hospitals, burn centers, etc.   The date of the tournament is July 12th. The cost of the tournament is $50 per entrant from 16 and older....5-15 years of age for the tournament is $25. Both of those prices are for day of the captains meeting, which is July 11that the Firehouse on Montauk highway, sign up. Entrants can save with early registration by going to east end bait and tackle on Montauk highway in Hampton bays and sign up there. Cost for early $45 per entrant 16 years of age and older, $20 for 5-15 years of age and of course anyone under 4 is free. Our prizes for the winning fish are $750 for first, $500 for second and $250 for third place.  We also have three calucuttas taking place also. With participating in our tournament, each entrant shall receive a bracelet in which allows them to come back after the tournament and enjoy a BBQ with refreshments and able to enjoy the band Untreated and participate in our Chinese auction and raffles. That's all included with registration. Fishing time is 7am-3pm. Weigh in is from 4pm-5pm at our fire department in Montauk highway. The weigh is being sponsored by east end bait and tackle and will be at the fire house from those times. Anyone wishing to come to JUST the BBQ, which startsat 3:30pm, and the Chinese auctions, raffles and the band can pay a fee of $30 for 16+ and 15 for 5-15 and under 5 is free. A special thanks to RBC Wealth care and the Nydegger foundations for their sponsorship to our tournament.  To east end bait and tackle for their donations and weigh station.  To Sitex and Bossler and Sweezey for thier donation. The Shinnecock marlin and tuna club for their participation and sponsorship of our ladies and juniors divisions, in which they donate all of the trophies also. Special thanks to all our local businesses who donated to our Chinese auction. Manhattan distributors, Hampton beverage, classic beverage, circle M beverage for their donations to our tournament.
Sincerely,
James Kappers
