Procrastination Is In The Air

According to Psychology Today, 20% of us are chronic procrastinators while the rest of us are just what I like to refer to as, casual procrastinators.  You know, putting off the occasional task we find boring or too challenging to tackle at the moment.  Apparently procrastination has become almost epidemic as there are so many more distractions in our world today than ever before, making it easier for those of us looking to not get to a task.

With the daunting tasks of autumn upon us, I feel procrastination in the air.  From lawn and garden care, to putting away the summer “stuff” or re-organizing the closets, there is no shortage of tasks to do.

·         Fall yard clean up ---ARGH!  All those leaves and they never seem to stop falling from the trees. Maybe just leave them there until it snows and then they will compost or you can clean them up with the spring cleanup plan.

·         Closing the pool and putting away all the summer “stuff”---Why do we need all those beach chairs and pool toys?  Let’s just call the pool guy to close the pool and put all the summer stuff on the curb with a “FREE” sign on it.  Done.

·         Lawn care –Crabgrass isn’t all that bad, it is durable and grows even when it’s not watered, do we really need to treat it?  Green is green, does anyone really look to see what kind of grass is growing?

·         Closet reorganization---putting away the summer whites and getting our wardrobe ready for cooler weather.  I know this has to be done, but it is still warm out now so why does it matter…readdress in October I say wear white ‘till Halloween!

·         Getting the guest room and dining room spruced up for the holidays.  HOLIDAYS? What? Do we really need to think about that now?  Thanksgiving is 11 weeks away, we can clean, paint, get furniture, fix the lighting, etc. and be ready in plenty of time…right?

Houzz.com is running a poll and contest on their site right now asking readers which remodeling job suffers the most from project procrastination.  Health Magazine posted on Facebook a message about the fact that even if you are going slowly you are still lapping the person sitting on the couch. I guess others are thinking there is procrastination in the air.

Here are a few tips for not procrastinating:

·         Make a To Do List.

·         For every task you want to do, make sure you are doing an equal number of tasks you really don’t want to do.

·         List items on the list by importance or due dates.

·         Get help where you can.

·         Look for incentive deals and promotions going on so that your tasks are easier and less expensive to accomplish.

·         Reward yourself every day for a job well done by sitting in your new Hot Springs Hot Tub.  This you should get immediately while we are having amazing financing options and sales promotions.  DO NOT PROCRASTINATE THIS!  Ocean Spray Hot Tubs and Saunas is offering a clearance sale on refurbished hot tubs and special financing on all new hot tubs.  This could be the best time of year to get yourself a hot tub.
