What Our Readers Think: Trick-Or-Treating Moves Off Main

A round-up of readers' comments.

On Tuesday, Westhampton Beach Main Street owners had their say on the annual Main Street Halloween event, which is taking place at the Westhampton Elementary School this October as opposed to Main Street as it has for the past ten years. Now, it our readers' turn.

The following is a round-up of comments from Patch readers. Feel free to add to the conversation by posting your thoughts in the comment section below.

justbreath wrote, "I always thought it was really great for the parents, they could actually shop a little while walking with their kids, or at least see something and go back. Oh well."

Janie Stevens said, "We live in Speonk... Looks like I will be taking my kids to Center Moriches though. I can't bear to see my kids watch the others have fun. Truly a disappointment. Way to exclude your neighbors. Bad, bad decision."

Jennifer Bigora wrote, "I'm very disappointed in this decision. They do it in Center Moriches, so we may just change our town this year... getting candy really isn't the point. It was so much fun to be a part of a bigger experience with the little kids who aren't in school yet, and to get to socialize with other families who we wouldn't normally see out and about that night. I hope they rethink the decision because everyone I've talked to about it is really unhappy with this decision."

Lillian said, "What a shame! My grandchildren always look forward to this event even though they attend nearby school districts and we looked forward to being among the little costumed ones."

In Support of the Change:

ralebird said, "What difference does it make, 90 percent of the stores on Main St. will be closed, if not vacant, by then anyway...great job Chamber of Commerce!"
