Westhampton Ice Rink Will Remain Closed

No suitable locations for it could be found.

The Westhampton Beach ice skating rink, which has opened at the end of January the past two years at the village marina, won't be opening this season — there is no suitable location for it.

With hurricane Sandy ravaging the village marina, the village board decided, in November, that the area was too dangerous for an ice rink. A hunt for a new location commenced with board members advocating for the great lawn or the village green.

This week, however, both those locations were deemed unsuitable.

"Our engineer said that the locations are not level enough for the rink," said Rebecca Molinaro, village clerk. "The ice rink won't be put up this year."

The rink first opened in Jan. 2011 at a cost of $4,500.

Ice skaters also won't be able to enjoy Southampton's ice rink in Hampton Bays. Earlier this month, Chris Bean, the town's parks and recreation supervisor said the rink's , which is not in the town's budget.

WHB should let Southampton Town borrow their liner for the year and set it up in Hampton Bays... Problem Solved! :)

This is too bad. And it looks like a cold winter, which would make the rinks utilizable. I hope by next year Hampton Bays rink is back on line. And what about East Quogue, does anyone know?

Bishop's field would be a good choice.
