Westhampton Beach Urges Motorists to Use Caution

Plows are working round-the-clock to clear the streets, village reports.

A day after a blizzard dumped up to 18 inches of snow in the area, the Village of Westhampton Beach is urging residents to use caution on the roadways.

According to Rebecca Molinaro, village clerk, highway crews are working hard to move snow from the roadways; however, she said "We urge motorists to use caution and their best judgement if they chose to travel today."

There are several power outages in the area, said Molinaro — about 20 due to a pole with a blown fuse, but the village is in constant contact with LIPA and is awaiting an update.

"We fared pretty well during the storm," said Molinaro.

Westhampton Beach Police Chief Ray Dean agreed. Saturday morning, he said, "We made out pretty good. I would urge people to stay home and off the streets though, so the crews can get things cleaned up. Stay safe and warm."

P. Killian, Thanks for asking. We just reached out to State police. They are doing seatbelt checks.
