An adult pygmy sperm whale was discovered 500 feet from the shore near 901 Dune Road in West Hampton Dunes on Wednesday night, according to Aram Terchunian, the commissioner of wildlife protection for the village.

Lt. James Kiernan has been put on administrative leave, Chief William Wilson confirmed Wednesday afternoon. Wilson said he could not offer any details surrounding the reason for the leave because it is a personnel matter and town officials are prohibited from discussing personnel matters in public.

The has released its 2012 summer main stage schedule with tickets now on sale. The center says it has worked to set a schedule "showcasing national and international performing artists from a dazzling array of genres."

A woman at the center of an alleged altercation that resulted in the death of a Riverhead taxi driver said he attacked her. According to police, Faith Miller, a Hampton Bays resident, alleges she was punched by Riverhead resident Robert Levasseur, a driver, who later died from injuries related to an alleged "road rage" incident that occurred on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays on April 21 after an onlooker reportedly interceded.
