Week in Review: Developer to Fight For Supermarket

1. Supermarket Developer: 'I Will Take My Fight to the People'

After learning, on Wednesday night, that Village of Westhampton Beach officials will not consider a petition that was submitted to them last month asking for an amendment to the village's zoning code to allow for a supermarket, developer Andrew Mendelson said he will take his fight to the people. He said, "There is an election coming up in June."

2. Town Board Reluctantly Accepts Comptroller's Resignation

With regrets, the Southampton Town Board voted Tuesday to accept the resignation of Town Comptroller Tamara Wright, effective the end of the month. Wright, who has served as comptroller since 2009, will take a similar post at Brookhaven Town Hall. Town Board members said they do not wish to see her go, and even joked about refusing to let her step down.

3. New Business: Hurricane Chiropractic Aims to Educate

Earlier this week, Patch posted an article about a new Chirpractic office, called Hurricane Chiropractic. The business officially opened it's doors in Westhampton Beach in January.

4. Slow Economy Gives Boost to Check Cashing

Just about a year ago, A. Hunt Marckwald, of Quogue, saw an opportunity to make money despite the state of the economy — a Westhampton Beach-based check cashing service solely for blue collar businesses, including landscapers, contractors and painters. The business, East End Liquidity Solutions, has taken off, Marckwald said, bringing in more clients than he expected to have in his first year.

5. Businesses: Welcome to Patch
