After several businesses owners stepped forward to voice opposition to a plan to close Main Street to motorists on the 4th of July for an evening, outdoor concert, the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center pulled the plug.

2. Green Door Market Announces Season Opening

The Green Door Market of Hampton Bays is set to open for its 8th season on May 3. Eileen and Peter Charos, the owners of the market, located at 31 Shinnecock Road, said they are looking forward to the season after a long winter.

3. Modell’s Sponsors Westhampton Beach Student's Backpack Fundraiser

Ariana DeMattei, a 7th grader at Westhampton Beach Middle School, is one step-closer to reaching her goal of filling 150 backpacks with school supplies for area elementary school students in need by September — Modell's Sporting Goods of Riverhead has offered up backpacks and proceeds from sales.

4. State Abolishes Saltwater Fishing License Fee

The newly passed New York State budget has eliminated the saltwater fishing license fee, according to State Sen. Kenneth LaValle, R-Port Jefferson.

5. Hampton Twin Arts To Open Later This Month After Puff-Back

The Hampton Arts Theatre in Westhampton Beach is set to re-open after it was forced to close its doors in February after a puff-back.

Area firefighters participated in a three-hour aircraft burn drill, sponsored by the 106th Air Rescue Wing at a remote location at Gabreski Airport over the last several days.

Raising nearly $50,000 each year, the 22-year-old Westhampton Kiwanis Club can do a lot for community members in need, but raising that money takes a lot of hard work and dedication, according to Greg Menegio, East Moriches resident and past president of the club.

8. Boardy Barn Sets Opening Date

The Boardy Barn of Hampton Bays announced its 2013 opening date on Facebook this week — It will officially open for the season on May 19.

When customers pull into the car wash at 114 Old Riverhead Rd Westhampton Beach, they may notice a few changes — first the name.

10. Time-Lapse Photos of Quogue Field Clubhouse Construction

Construction is continuing on a project to build a new clubhouse at the privately-owned Quogue Field Club. Since the project commenced in September, much work has been done as seen in photos taken over the last several months by photographer Jeff Cully.

15. 106th Air National Guard To Benefit From State Budget

In the face of national cuts in defense spending, New York State has opted to include money in its 2013 budget for Westhampton's 106th Air National Guard base at Gabreski Airport, as well as other bases around the state.
