1. New Plans in Works For Former Westhampton Beach Bowling Alley

The darkened former bowling alley, which sits at 78 Sunset Avenue in Westhampton Beach, is close to being transformed into retail space, complete with a 50-seat restaurant.

2. Performing Arts Center Planning Outdoor Concert for the 4th of July

Wanting to give back to the community while celebrating its 15th anniversary, the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center is planning a large-scale, free outdoor concert to be held on the 4th of July in Westhampton Beach.

3. Community Sounds Off on Gym Teacher Arrest

News that a 27-year-old Westhampton Beach Middle School gym teacher was charged with a felony, after police said an investigation led them to believe he recorded students with a cellphone inside a girls' locker room, has sent shock waves through the community.

4. Historical Society Provides a Link to Local Roots

The old Westhampton Beach Historical Societywebsite is history — the site has recently been revamped to provide residents with more links to their roots, according to Cherie Magee, a Westhampton Beach resident who is editing the site on a volunteer basis.

5. Did You Know: Hampton Bays Has Its Own Flag

That's right. The Hamlet of Hampton Bays has its own flag, created in 1999 through a contest sponsored by the Hampton Bays Beautification Association. The association, at the time run by Maud Kramer, put a call out for flag designs in an effort to boost community spirit and received numerous submissions.

Just in time for spring, Cornell Cooperative Extension has created a video that focuses on the Hampton Bays Good Ground community garden.

The video was designed to educate the public on the garden, which was established in May 2011 at the Hampton Bays Middle School.

7. Open For the Season: Rustic Roots Delivery

While there is an abundance of fresh, organic veggies and fruits available at local farm stands, sometimes finding the time to stop by and pick them up proves challenging. That's where Jeffery Moore, owner of the year-old Rustic Roots Delivery, steps in.

8. State Driver's Licenses to Change Color

Beginning in July, New York State will change the look of its driver's licenses in a move to reduce forgeries that lead to identity theft, underage drinking and – worst-case scenario – possible terrorist attacks, as reported by The New York Times.

9. Homeless Seek New Shelter After Maureen's Haven Season Ends

As the wind and snow pummeled the East End Tuesday morning, homeless individuals who might normally have spent the night seeking shelter from the storm were warm and safe after a hot dinner and a night spent watching a movie with friends.

10. GOP Pledges Town Supervisor Race Will Be Contested; Kabot Seeks Nomination

Southampton Town Republican Committee Chairman William Wright said unequivocally last week that the GOP will have a name on the ballot in 2013 for the town supervisor race — unlike two years ago when the party failed to field a candidate.

11. Schneiderman Will Seek Reelection To County Seat One More Time

Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman, I-Montauk, announced on Monday that he will seek reelection in November, instead of running for the East Hampton Town Supervisor position.
