Coast Guard Rescues Two From Oakland's Floating Dock

The Coast Guard saved two men who were stranded on a piece of floating dock on Thursday.

Two men, who were stranded on a piece of floating dock, were rescued by members on Thursday around 4 p.m.

The men, the Coast Guard reports, were adrift on a piece of dock that broke loose from a marina in Hampton Bays and heading toward the Shinnecock Inlet.

The Coast Guard says the men, who were working on the dock and not wearing lifejackets, were standing on the a dock at , when it suddenly broke free.

Coast Guard officials say bad weather conditions made the situation more dangerous.

"Conditions were pretty bad out there, especially if you’re stranded on a piece of dock adrift without a lifejacket,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Matthew Peryea, the member in charge of the boat crew.

Officer Peryea, said the Coast Guard managed to safely rescue the men and urged anyone who is working on the water in bad weather conditions to always wear a lifejacket. 

"High winds and rough seas can catch anyone by surprise, and you want to be prepared," he said.
