ZBA Meeting on Tiana Pines Postponed

Attorney for Tiana Pines has requested an adjournment.

The Town of Southampton Zoning Board of Appeals will not be holding a discussion during its Thursday meeting on a controversial application to convert the Hampton Bays-based Tiana Pines Motel into an apartment complex.

The meeting, according to a Facebook post by the Concerned Citizens of Hampton Bays, will be postponed after attorney for the Pines Motel requested an adjournment.

The next ZBA meeting is scheduled for April 4; however, the Board of Zoning Appeals must vote at 7 p.m. on an adjournment date, which may or not be scheduled for April 4.

The Concerned Citizens of Hampton Bays, which formed in 2012, have long-been fighting the Tiana Pines conversion project and retained Eric Bregman, of Farrell Fritz, P.C., to represent their interests.

In February, the group presented the ZBA with a petition, containing over 150 signatures against the conversion.

Their main argument is that the apartments will add to the hamlet's density problem, which places a burden on the school district.

The owners of Tiana Pines, Domenico and Vincenza Iadevaia of Carle Place, however, contend, according to a report on 27east, that "the actions of town officials over the years—particularly, the renewing of building permits and the issuing of COs" gives them the right to use the property as an apartment complex.
