Three Rescued in Shinnecock on Sunday

The Coast Guard picked up three after they abandoned ship.

Members of the rescued three boaters on Sunday after they abandoned their fishing boat, named Vincenzo, which was taking on water.

According to the , the captain of the boat put out a distress call, which was received at the Coast Guard Station in New Haven, Connecticut. The captain reported that the three fishermen were wearing survivor suites and were in a life raft about 12 miles south of Shinnecock.

The Coast Guard says a fellow fishing boat, Rhonda & Denise, heard the emergency call and picked up the three boaters. The Coast Guard arrived shortly after and took the boaters to the Shinnecock Coast Guard Station.

No injures were reported and Petty Officer Anthony Kozak, an operations specialist with the command center in New Haven, said,  “The captain was well prepared. He notified us before abandoning ship and gave his last position.  He was calm entire time, right up to the point where he was stepping out of the cabin to board the life raft.”
